Jemma is a specialist Children’s Solicitor, representing parents and extended family members in all aspects of proceedings concerning children.
Jemma has a particular experience in working with parents who are considered vulnerable adults and those with learning difficulties/disabilities or mental health issues and instructions by the Official Solicitor. Jemma has also represented parents in proceedings brought by the Local Authority when there has been concerns such as, neglect, domestic abuse, mental health, drug/alcohol use and allegations of physical/sexual abuse.
Jemma deals with a case load solely in Child Protection, Care and Family Law matters, specialising in the following areas:

- Special Guardianship Order Applications and advice.

- Cases where parents are involved with Social Services (Pre-Proceedings Meetings/PLO meeting, Child Protection and Child In Need);
- Applications under the Court’s Inherent Jurisdiction.

- Private Law Children Work (Contact and Residence disputes, Prohibitive Steps and Specific Issue applications.
- Injunctions (under the Family Law Act and Harassment Act).

Re S: represented a Mother as a Respondent in Child Arrangement Order proceedings concerning her son. There were a number of serious allegations made by the Mother against the Father. At the fact finding hearing 10 out of the 11 findings were made in the Mother’s favour and the proceedings concluded with the child remaining in the Mother’s care and a no contact order and a barring order preventing the Father from reapplying to Court for a further two years.
Re P: successfully represented Mother on discharge of care order application in respect to five children previous removed from Mother’s care, with all five children transitioning back to Mother’s care.Re S: representing a young Father in care proceedings in respect of his Daughter, who he had not met prior to the issuing of the proceedings. There were concerns about the Father’s DNA as well as the Father’s immigration status and substance misuse. The proceedings concluded with the child being placed in the Father’s care under a Child Arrangements Order with a 12 month Supervision Order.
Re L: representing Father in care proceedings concerning his 7 year old Daughter who had not lived with him prior to the proceedings. There were concerns in respect to the Mother’s mental health and substance misuse, parental alienation including the Mother making various false allegations in respect of sexual abuse of the child by the Father. The proceedings concluded with the Child being placed in Father’s care under a Child Arrangements Order with a Family Assistance Order in place to assist the Father in arranging contact between child and Mother.
Re T: representing a vulnerable Mother in care proceedings through the Official Solicitor, involving concerns of parental substance misuse, mental health and neglect.
