Night Shift Admin and Telephone Assistant
Job Title: Night Shift Admin and Telephone Assistant
Location: One of our nationwide offices (remote options)
Salary: Competitive
About GT Stewart
We are a renowned multiservice law firm committed to access for justice. Our lawyers specialise in criminal defence, family law, housing, civil liberties and human rights. We are a Legal 500 and Chambers UK recommended firm who are currently recruiting two Night Shift Admin and Telephone Assistants to join our team in a newly created role that supports our critical out-of-hours service. This is a permanent, full-time role (part-time considered).
The Role
Working overnight, you will be the first point of contact for calls coming into the firm and will provide key administrative support to our legal teams during non-office hours. You will be responsible for triaging incoming enquiries, logging key information, and coordinating the firm’s out-of-hours police station cover.
When call traffic is lower, you will carry out essential administrative tasks such as opening files, drafting standard letters, and updating internal systems.
You should be organised, reliable, and calm under pressure, with a professional and friendly telephone manner. While legal experience is desirable, it is not essential — we are more interested in your ability to manage calls, follow procedures, and work independently and efficiently through the night.
Key Responsibilities
- Handling incoming calls overnight and managing enquiries in a professional manner
- Coordinating our police station rota and liaising with on-call representatives
- Logging calls, updating internal records, and escalating urgent matters
- Drafting standard correspondence and opening new case files
- Providing remote administrative support to legal teams across the firm
- Working some weekend and bank holiday day or night shifts as required
The Ideal Candidate
- Be confident and self-sufficient working overnight
- Have excellent communication and organisational skills
- Be IT literate and comfortable using case management systems (training provided)
- Be proactive, with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Remain calm and professional when handling sensitive or urgent matters
- Ideally have experience in a legal or professional services setting
Working with us
You’ll be part of a friendly, committed and forward-thinking team. We are proud of our paperless systems and the investment we’ve made in our IT infrastructure to support flexible, remote working.
Employee Benefits
- Competitive salary
- 23 days annual leave (increasing with service) plus bank holidays
- Your birthday off, in addition to annual leave
- Pension scheme with employer contributions
- Optional Benenden Health Care
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Laptop provided
- Ongoing training and development
- Hybrid working culture and supportive management
- Bi-annual staff parties (Summer and Christmas)
